Wine with halal certificate
Halal is the Arabic term to indicate that something is "clean" or "permitted" under Islamic law. Our shop always looks for the best wine with a halal certificate. This means that the wine is really completely alcohol-free and contains no trace of alcohol. Many other wines that are sold as non-alcoholic often still contain some alcohol (maximum 0.5%). Halal wine is a relatively new concept. The Dutch entrepreneur Taner Tabak launched the first 100% halal wine on the market in 2012 (after two years of experimentation). You now have a lot of choice when it comes to wine with a halal certificate. Where you previously found mainly European halal wines, you can now find halal wines from all over the world. The quality of these 100% alcohol-free wines is also getting better. This is partly because winemakers are much more aware of harvesting for non-alcoholic wine. For example, the grapes are picked earlier; the grape juice then contains less sugar, so that less alcohol is produced during fermentation. Consequently less alcohol needs to be removed.
